SS FAQs: Where Does the Money From My Purse Purchase Go?

Every so often we get asked a question more than once and it helps us realize that maybe a number of you share the same inquiry! So, every once in awhile, we will take a break from product and incredible stories of changed lives to share some of the facts behind Sak Saum.

Today's Question: How much of the income generated from Sak Saum's product sales goes back to the girls?

Great question! To answer in short, 100% of the profit goes back to Sak Saum. The girls benefit in both direct and indirect ways. For the girls who live at Sak Saum, their housing is paid (a couple of the girls still live with family members and one girl is married and has a son). For all the girls, their food and other necessities for living are taken care of as well. They receive an above-normal salary, as well as bonuses, medical and dental coverage, vacation time, etc. Obviously, we also have costs such as shipping, rent, purchase of fabric and necessary supplies, machines, etc.

What is the heart behind all of this? Our desire is that Sak Saum truly belongs to the girls -- this has been our goal all along. That's why the international staff working with Sak Saum, including Ginny as director, don't receive a salary from the proceeds. We are creating a sustainable ministry to vulnerable and exploited women. Of course our dependency is ultimately on God, trusting that He will work in the hearts of wonderful people like you to buy our products. However, true empowerment creates opportunities and choices. Allowing the funds to flow back into Sak Saum empowers our girls.

One final note: it may interest you to know that Sak Saum also has a heart to fund other small enterprise developments designed to help others in need. This is a true testimony of changed people changing a nation.
