Microenterprise
In His Steps provides business training, seed capital and support to help people launch small businesses. Microenterprise is a bit different from microlending. Microlending gives small amounts of money to individuals in a loan format, expecting repayment of the loan within a certain period of time. Microenterprise may involve microloaning but, in our case, it is instead an investment into someone's life and potential through a gift.
Why do we do it this way?
We are committed to working with Cambodia's poorest of the poor. Many of these individuals are unable to obtain microloans and remain stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty and despair.
Who receives and benefits from microenterprise?
The Poorest of the Poor: Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in Asia with high unemployment and a corrupt government bent on using its people rather than serving them. Many Cambodian families attempt to live on less than $1 per day.
Vulnerable Women: Given these dire economic straits, many families resort to selling their girls into prostitution, garment factory labor, domestic slavery and more. We often hear people wonder what kind of parents would sell their child, sending them to a factory rather than a classroom. It is a valid and uncomfortable question. The answer is more so an economic issue than a moral one. Microenterprise helps vulnerable women by helping the entire family raise their standard of living.

How to Make a Difference:
You can help change this heartbreaking dilemma! Your gift initiates a process that transforms lives economically, socially and spiritually. Together we can...
